چکیده

This paper is concerned with capacities of directsequence (DS) code-division multiple-access (CDMA) systems accommodating multiclass services with different transmission rates and bit error rates (BER’s). The capacities are expressed by inequalities to which the number of accepted calls of each class should conform. Those inequalities are necessary and sufficient conditions satisfying the requirement of the bit energy-tointerference power spectral density ratio. The optimal received power is derived to cause the least interference to other signals while maintaining the acceptable bit energy-to-interference power spectral density ratio. It is shown that if the maximally receivable power of a call of each class is identical in the multicode system and the single-code system using a variable processing gain, the capacities of both systems are also identical in nonfading channels. However, in multipath fading channels, the multicode system is shown to be better than the single-code system in terms of capacity. Capacity is also derived in a dynamic multiple-cell environment.

Capacities of spectrally overlaid single-code and multicode CDMA systems

This paper is concerned with the capacities of spectrally overlaid narrow-band and wide-band systems using two code-division multiple-access (CDMA) techniques: a single-code and a multicode. The capacity is defined here as the maximally achievable total throughput in the narrow-band and wide-band subsystems. User signal power in the overlay systems affects the performance of the systems. The si...

Joint Frequency-domain Equalization and Antenna Diversity Combining for Orthogonal Multicode DS-CDMA Signal Transmissions in A Frequency-selective Fading Channel

Orthogonal multicode direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) has a flexibility in offering various data rate services. However, in a frequency-selective fading channel, the bit error rate (BER) performance is severely degraded since othogonality among spreading codes is partially lost. In this paper, we apply frequency-domain equalization and antenna diversity combining, used in...

Iterative Frequency-Domain Soft Interference Cancellation for Multicode DS- and MC-CDMA Transmissions and Performance Comparison

Frequency-domain equalization (FDE) based on the minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion can significantly improve the BER performance of DSand MC-CDMA systems in a severe frequencyselective fading channel. However, since the frequency-distorted signal cannot be completely equalized, the residual inter-code interference (ICI) limits the BER performance improvement. 4G systems must support mu...

Throughput Comparison of Turbo-Coded HARQ in OFDM, MC-CDMA and DS-CDMA with Frequency-Domain Equalization

OFDM, MC-CDMA and DS-CDMA are being researched vigorously as the prospective signaling technique for the next generation mobile communications systems, which will be characterized by the broadband packet technology. With packet transmissions, hybrid ARQ (HARQ) will be inevitable for error control. HARQ with rate compatible punctured turbo (RCPT) codes is one of the promising techniques. Data ra...
